Two pieces of research run alongside the practice work. Both are ongoing and updates will be posted on this page as they develop.

MBA dissertation on the complaints procedure
University of Gloucestershire, in progress.

James is studying for a Master of Business Administration (MBA), with a dissertation on the statutory children's social care complaints procedure. It draws on data from English local authorities to build a national evidence base on how the procedure operates. Once the research is complete, the intention is to finalise a book and a practice guide on the Children Act complaints procedure, drawing on its findings.

A reading across ombudsman decisions
Early stage.

A structured reading of Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman decisions in children's social care, looking at what can be learned from reading decisions together rather than one at a time. The Geneva contribution is its first public outing.

James speaks at conferences, seminars, team away days and in house sessions on the complaints procedure, safeguarding in charities, and what services learn when they listen properly to children and families. Sessions are built around the audience.
